Anthony Gordon scored a total of 440 yards and three touchdowns for his third consecutive 400-yard game. The number 20 of Washington State has withdrawn in the second half to impose 31-24 against Houston Friday night.

Gordon threw a 7-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter and made two 39-yard throws, including one in the third quarter to advance Washington State (3-0).

This was the first meeting as lead coaches of Mike Leach, in Washington State, and Dana Holgorsen, of Houston, who had met for the first time almost 30 years ago when Holgorsen was playing at Iowa Wesleyan, where Leach was assistant.

BOX SCORE: NO. 20 STATE OF WASHINGTON 31, HOUSTON 24

The two coaches played together at Valdosta State and Texas Tech and have remained close since that time, adding some familiarity to this team match for the fourth time.

D'Eriq King collected 128 yards and a score, 94 yards rushing and two touchdowns during a Houston night (1-2) leading 14-7 at halftime. But Houston struggled to move the ball in the second half, lost two fumbles and was not in the end zone after half-time until the race was over. 12 yards from King with 2:21 to 31-24.

Brandon Arconado had nine receptions for 115 yards and Max Borghi added 61 yards and a touchdown in the third quarter to help Washington State win.

Houston scored for the first time in fourth and one goal in their first half-time training and missed the goal. Washington State recovered and Borghi caught a 17-yard pass in the next race and tied it at 14-all with a 1-yard run.

Gordon used a perfect shot to drop the ball between two defenders to Dezmon Patmon for a 39-yard touchdown in the middle of the third, to give Washington his first lead of the 21-14 game.

King seemed to have scored on a 72-yard run in the third quarter, but Jeremy Singleton was called for holding the ball and he was brought back. The Houston training stalled after that and the team was forced to make an ambush.

It remained about 11 minutes when Houston found himself at 21-17 with a 42-yard placement.

Another Gordon touchdown, the strike against Travell Harris, pushed Washington's lead to 28-17, seven minutes from the end.

Houston took a 7-0 lead midway through the second quarter when King finished a 15-yard, 82-yard lead with a 13-yard pass by Marquez Stevenson.

Washington State hit home in the next round when Easop Winston took the lead to defend the defense and capture Gordon's 39-yard touchdown reception.

King brought Houston 14-7 to first place when he slipped 1 meter to the next drive. King has at least one pass and a score scored in 14 consecutive games to equal FBS's record for consecutive games with a touchdown pass and a touchdown set by Tim Tebow.

Washington State then had a good pass, but Gleson Sprewell did an acrobatic interception in the end zone to keep Houston at half-time. The game has extended the series of matches Houston with a delivery of 20, which is the longest active sequence of the country. It was also Houston's 103rd interception since 2013, which is the largest number of countries in this period.
