Governor Beshear asks for masks inside

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) – As cases of the Delta variant increase, our course of action is clear according to Governor Andy Beshear.

“Everyone, everyone, needs to be vaccinated,” said the governor.

In June, the term for masks ended in Kentucky. Now, the governor is asking for masks in indoor public places, even for fully vaccinated people.

“It’s not the tips that change, it’s the virus that changes,” Governor Beshear said.

This is because all of Kentucky’s public colleges and universities will need face coverings. The same will apply to several school districts, including Fayette and Franklin counties.

However, not all districts make this choice.

Governor Beshear says he is concerned the virus could spread to children 11 and under who are too young to be vaccinated.

“We teach science in our classrooms, but some districts ignore it altogether,” Beshear says. “You won’t be able to complete the school year, so do you really care about children’s health and their attendance in class or are you primarily concerned with what some parents will think? “

Looking ahead, the governor says he’s not afraid to make tough decisions if the number of cases doesn’t change.
