Governor Beshear Reports 2,756 New Cases of COVID-19; the positivity rate continues to decline

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) – Governor Andy Beshear provided an update on COVID-19 cases.

Governor Beshear reported 2,756 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the state’s total to 340,779 cases. The governor says the state has a positivity rate of 10.80%. This is the lowest rate since January 2.

Of Friday’s new cases, 395 involve children 18 and under.

36 COVID-19-related deaths were reported as of Friday, the highest daily total ever reported. The total of deaths in the state is now 3,337.

As of Friday, 1,561 people are hospitalized for reasons related to COVID-19, 387 are in intensive care and 195 are on ventilators. At least 41,562 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

“My friends, there’s a pretty simple reason why I think our cases are on the decline, and it’s because I see you all doing the hard work,” Governor Beshear said. “I see people wearing masks more than ever and engaging in social distancing when they can. Keep going. We will beat this virus in 2021. We just have to protect everyone until we get there.
