Governor Cuomo announces record of more than 183,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in 24 hours

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that 183,984 first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the past 24 hours, a record high for the state. In addition, the Governor announced that 5,143,219 first and second doses have been administered to date, of which 801,993 have been administered by state-run mass vaccination sites. As of 11 a.m. today, providers in New York have administered 95% of the first doses delivered so far. The federal government week 12 allowance is being returned to providers for administration.

“We are working tirelessly to immunize New Yorkers as quickly and fairly as possible, paying special attention to the historically underserved communities that have suffered the most during this pandemic.” Governor Cuomo said. “Our extensive network of distribution sites, including 24/7 operations in some communities, are receiving more and more shots every day. With a true partner in the White House, I am confident that we will continue to see increases in our weekly allocations and we are ready to step up our distribution efforts as soon as we receive more doses. “

About 10 million New Yorkers are currently eligible to receive the vaccine. New York’s vast distribution network and large population of eligible people still far exceed supply from the federal government. Due to the limited supply, New Yorkers are encouraged to remain patient and are advised not to show up to walk-in vaccination sites.

The “Am I Eligible” screening tool has been updated for people with co-morbidities and underlying conditions, with new appointments being posted on an ongoing basis over the coming weeks. New Yorkers can use the following to show they are eligible:

• Letter from doctor, or
• Medical information proving the comorbidity, or
• Signed certification

Immunization schedule numbers below are for doses distributed and delivered to New York City for the state immunization program, and do not include those reserved for the federal long-term care program. A breakdown of the data based on numbers released to New York State at 11 a.m. today is as follows. Beginning in week 9, the allocation total includes some vaccine dose surpluses that have been reallocated from the federal long-term care facility program. The allocation totals below include 60 percent of the Week 12 allocation that will eventually be distributed to vendor sites in New York on Sunday.

* These numbers represent 60% of Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines for week 12. The full week 12 allocation is expected to arrive by the end of the day on Sunday March 7th.

To date, providers in New York have administered 95 percent of the first doses received from the federal government, but due to the limited allocation from the federal government, appointments have filled up quickly. New Yorkers looking to determine their eligibility and make an appointment at a state-run mass vaccination site can visit the “Am I Eligible” website. New Yorkers can also call their local health department, pharmacy, doctor, or hospital for more information and to schedule appointments where vaccines are available.

The COVID-19 Vaccine Tracking Dashboard is available to inform New Yorkers of the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine. New York State Department of Health requires immunization centers to report all COVID-19 vaccine administration data within 24 hours; Vaccine administration data on the dashboard is updated daily to reflect the most up-to-date metrics of the state’s immunization effort.

New Yorkers who suspect fraud in the vaccine distribution process can now call 833-VAX-SCAM (833-829-7226) toll-free or email the State Department of Health at [email protected]. Hotline staff will route complaints to the appropriate investigative agencies to ensure New Yorkers are not exploited as the state works to vaccinate all eligible populations.
