Gov. Tim Walz announced Tuesday that Minnesota was expanding eligibility for the coronavirus vaccine after meeting its goal of inoculating at least 70% of people 65 and older.
The state will extend eligibility to the next two phases of Minnesotans at a time. Walz said the next two priority groups include people with underlying health conditions and those at risk for workplace exposure, including about 45,000 people who work in food processing plants.
“We asked most Minnesotans to wait patiently as we protect the higher risk Minnesotans and get vaccines against at least 70 percent of our seniors. We will reach this milestone on Wednesday – well ahead of schedule, ”Walz said in a statement. “More Minnesotans will now be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, starting this week.”

The next two phases include around 1.8 million people who will be able to be vaccinated from Wednesday.
They include Minnesotans with specific underlying health conditions such as sickle cell anemia, Down syndrome, those being treated for cancer or immunocompromised following an organ transplant, and those with chronic lung and heart disease dependent. oxygen.
Food processing plant workers and other targeted essential employees are also included.
Next phases also include Minnesotans aged 45 and over with one or more underlying medical conditions identified by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
People 16 and older with two or more underlying health conditions and Minnesota residents 50 and older in multi-generational housing are also eligible.
