Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced several cabinet, state agency and executive appointments on Thursday.
“The State of Michigan will benefit from all of today’s appointments and I look forward to working with this talented group of people to put Michiganders first and get things done,” Governor Whitmer said. “We currently have an unprecedented opportunity to usher in a new era of prosperity for our state, and I am proud to have a skilled and experienced team by my side as we work together to bring about real change on fundamental issues of the kitchen table that makes a difference in people’s lives.
Christopher Harkins has been appointed the new director of the state budget. He is currently Director of the Michigan Senate Tax Agency and previously worked at the State Budget Office and the House Republican Policy Office.
Julia Dale will be the new director of the state technology, management and budget department. She more recently served as Deputy Attorney General and Section Head of the Business and Charities Section in the Attorney General’s Office and previously held various senior positions in the Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Department.
Poppy Sias-Hernandez will be Global Michigan’s new executive director while continuing her role as the state’s head of equity and inclusion. She has served in the Whitmer administration from the start, first as Regional Director of Community Affairs for Western Michigan and more recently as Equity and Inclusion Officer for Michigan.
Maria Martinez has been appointed Chief Compliance Officer. She was previously the deputy legal adviser to the governor and joined the executive office in December 2020.
Marc Rehmann was chosen to serve as the governor’s policy director. He joined the administration after serving as Deputy Chief of Staff to U.S. Representative Diana DeGette, Senior Campaign Director at the Center for American Progress and Legislative Assistant to U.S. Representative Beto O’Rourke.
