Grant allows an artist to offer free printmaking lessons

The green printmaking workshops, free for city residents aged 15 and over, are scheduled for August 28 and 29 from 10 a.m. to noon, and space is limited, so it is advisable to register by sending an email to Carmel at [email protected] or through its website at https://donnacarmel.com.

“Green engraving uses non-toxic materials such as soy-based inks, recycled and natural items,” Carmel said, noting that attendees will use a small press during the process.

Natural objects that will be available include weeds, flowers, sticks, and stones, and textures will be created using bubble wrap, plastic wrap scraps and the bottoms of water bottles.

“You can bring your own gear,” Carmel said. “The results are fun and no experience is necessary.”

Participants will be required to wear a face mask and each will have a separate workspace six feet apart to ensure a safe distance.

“As an artist, I love printmaking using natural and recycled objects because it’s very experimental with surprising results,” she said.

Carmel will encourage participants to also present their work in his personal studio, 399 Little River Road, on Saturdays in October.

“I will have a closing celebration on October 30 from 10 am to 1 pm with free coffee and snacks,” she added.

On a related note, Carmel will be offering a workshop – Gelli Plate Printmaking – on September 25 from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $ 25 which includes supplies and early registration is advised due to limited studio space.

“Learn how to use gelli plates with acrylic paint, stencils, designs and textures to create greeting cards, journal pages or small prints to hang,” she said.

Carmel will also welcome workshop participants to choose a better print to hang in the studio that opens in October.
