Individuals, organizations, businesses, local governments and schools in Northeast Michigan can apply for up to $ 100,000 to help fund projects that support land-based industries such as food and agriculture, forestry, mining and tourism.
The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development today announced the opening of its 2022 grant round, offering up to $ 1.74 million combined to industries that support rural Michigan communities.
Grants from the Rural Development Fund also finance energy, transport, communication, water supply and wastewater treatment infrastructure that benefits rural communities.
Previous winning projects around Michigan have included a beach revitalization, trailhead expansion, commercial expansions to promote the use of local produce, and the addition of docks at a city marina.
In 2019, grant recipients included Austin Brothers Beer Company, of Alpena, who received $ 34,300 for the purchase of equipment.
Those interested in applying for the grants program should visit Michigan.gov/MDARDGrants. Applications, expected Nov. 18, require at least three letters of support.
