CEDAR FALLS – A frustrating second nine on Saturday afternoon derailed Marshalltown senior Grant Greazel’s second round at the Beaver Hills Country Club Class 4A golf tournament.

After a birdie on his opening hole (# 10), Greazel bogeyed the 11th par-5 and then the 16th par-4. For the second day in a row, he clocked an above-par 37 on the more difficult back nine. But unlike his second nine on Friday in which he reached No.2 and shot an under-35, Greazel struggled to reach a 3-over of 39 to end the event with a 4-over of 76. .

The bogeys on holes 3, 7 and 9 on a course that was more difficult to play on the second day took Greazel out of the competition for a top five finish.

Finishing in ninth place, just two spots from the medalist spots, Greazel ended his high school golf career as a state qualifier three times.

The individual winner at the state was one of Greazel’s playing partners, Ottumwa senior Cale Leonard. Leonard shot 5 under 139 over the two days of the event.
