Greece is an example of climate change and major energy challenges

Greece can become an example for both climate change and the major economic and social challenges of energy, said Environment and Energy Minister George Stathakis in an article published in "Sunday's Steps", pointing out that the momentum of changes on the ground is similar to those that took place in telecommunications twenty years ago

The Minister also points out:

-For energy planning: we are active, early on, The National Commission on Energy and Climate, the task of preparing the National Plan for Energy and Climate, in a broad dialogue with all stakeholders. A roadmap clearly describing the transformation of the energy mix and efficiency, both quantitatively and qualitatively

– for the networks: we have decades for the islands to be interconnected with the electricity of the continent and no longer depend on

We are completing the restructuring of the major groups active in the sector and there is public participation (PPC, IDEM, DEPA, DESFA, ELPE). We take advantage of Greece's geographical position by promoting major infrastructure projects in cooperation with neighboring countries.

-To save energy: We promote energy efficiency programs for homes and public buildings with investments reaching 3 billion euros. A set of initiatives to save energy in transport (vehicles, ships) will be presented shortly with the use of modern technologies requiring significant investment, mainly in infrastructure

-For energy costs:

The year 2017 has shown that not only has there been no increase in electricity prices, but that they have down, although they are already well below the euro area average

. In addition, we avoid any special burden of reducing gas pollution, creating a surplus guarantee of 70 million euros on the special account RES. We will also reduce the supplier burden on electricity suppliers (PPEFPL), which will be cut in half by 2020 and will then be replaced by a "green certificate" system.
