Facebook announced today the removal of suspicious accounts from Iran, which were leading a "coordinated" political manipulation effort and had attracted more than one million American and British supporters, in a bid to fight against misinformation on its platform.
The company removed 82 pages, groups and accounts on Facebook and Instagram that appeared to belong to Americans or British and had published articles on "politically charged" topics such as racism, opposition to US President Donald Trump and Immigration, said Facebook's Cyber Security Officer Nathanel Glacier.
These accounts totaled more than one million followers.
Although the accounts come from Iran, it is not clear if they are related to the Iranian government, said Facebook, adding that he had shared this information with others. technology companies as well as with the US and British governments.
