The increase in tramway requirements, now with its extension to Piraeus (this year the line will be operational) will be covered by the contract signed by Attiko Metro SA. with the French company Alstom Transport S.A.
The award procedure involves the purchase of 25 new trains at a cost of 54 million euros excluding VAT (64 million initial budget) with a running time of 940 days.
The second generation tramway trains that will be integrated into the network of Athens and Piraeus, have modern safety and operating systems, as well as all the latest technological developments.
The project is part of the 2014-2020 Attica Operational Program and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
The first new generation tramway trains are expected to appear in the streets of Athens and Piraeus by the end of 2019 and the completion of the acquisition is scheduled for 2020.
