There is no evidence that China is manipulating its currency, said IMF chief economist Mori Obsfeld in response to a recent decision by US President Donald Trump.
"Although currency movements have been observed recently, there is no evidence that there has been any manipulation of the yuan," he said in an interview with CNBC on Obstfeld.
He also noted that a similar conclusion had been reached by the US Treasury Department's report last April.
It is recalled that last Friday, Trab reported that China, the EU and other countries are manipulating their currencies to make their exports more competitive.
The Chinese currency is now at its lowest level since June 2017 against the dollar
