The new framework governing the practice of the engineering profession in all specialties was defined by a presidential decree published in the Official Journal.

The presidential decree "Regulating the profession of the engineer by defining the professional rights of each specialty", as provided by the law n ° 4439/2016, modernizes the framework in force by the royal decree of 1930, as well as the law No. 6422 of 1934.

The DP defines the professional rights of all engineering specialties, including "new specialties" (production and management engineers, mineral resource engineers, environmental engineers, urban and development engineers). The determination is based on the professional profiles, the cognitive subjects and the program of each specialty, the international practices and the points of view of the international organizations. The goal is to protect and promote the role of graduate engineer in the job market.

The general principles

According to the general principles set out in Presidential Decree 99/2018, it is stipulated that the free exercise of the profession of specialist engineer is only authorized: a. To the holders of an engineering degree corresponding to their specialty, to the polytechnic schools or to the departments of the polytechnic schools of the higher education establishments of the Greek schools or their foreign equivalents, according to the procedure foreseen by the Law 3328/2005 (& # 39; 80),

b. to those who have obtained the right to practice the profession of engineer in accordance with the provisions of the presidential decree. 38/2010 (78-78) "Adaptation of Greek legislation to Directive 2006/36 / EC of the European Parliament of 7 September 2005" in its current version and in accordance with the conditions of the corresponding recognition.

The corresponding license is granted exclusively by the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), in accordance with the provisions in force. After this license, the engineer becomes a mandatory member of the Technical Chamber of Greece.

It should be noted that the Chartered Engineer has the technical responsibility for the study, design, monitoring, control, supervision, implementation, evaluation, evaluation and integrated operation, maintenance and management of products, materials, projects, engineering projects, systems, facilities, processes and networks.

Depending on the needs of the project, the study and execution of projects at the level of a qualified engineer can be carried out by a multidisciplinary team, coordinated by a qualified engineer, who also badumes the central responsibility.

Following the general principles, the DP defines professional rights by engineering degree.

For the drafting of the PD, which was expected from 2016, when the relevant law was pbaded, 13 project teams were employed by engineering and by a 9-member committee. Each project team was composed of a representative of the scientific badociation of the specialty and two faculty members of faculty members of the respective specialties. The findings of each project group were reviewed, in the presence of a representative of the State Legal Council, within a committee composed of nine members, including a representative of the General Secretariat to the four representatives of the ministries concerned (Infrastructure and Transport, Research Education and Religious Affairs, Environment and Energy, and Development), a representative of the Technical Chamber of Greece, a representative of the Competition Commission, a member of the faculty and the representative of the scientific badociation of each specialty.
