Arrivals by air and by road increased in June 2018, compared to the same month of 2017, according to figures from the Hellenic Tourist Enterprises Association

In particular, major airports recorded an increase in international arrivals by 14.6% (+ 18.0% since the beginning of the year). The increase was observed both in Athens (+ 27.0%) and in regional airports (+ 11.7%), while since the beginning of the year, the respective increases have been respectively + 23.1% and + 15.8% [19659003] The increase in arrivals is also reflected in the research on the borders of the Bank of Greece. Inbound travel in May was up 23.6% over May 2017 and travel receipts up 34.7%. The corresponding changes since the beginning of the year are + 16.8% and + 21.7% respectively.

With regard to hotel prices, despite rising trends, and according to trivago, they are moving to more destinations at competitive levels, compared to hotel prices for corresponding destinations abroad . Greece as a whole (with the exception of Mykonos and Santorini) is cheaper in all categories, with the exception of Turkey, which is recovering this year using price policy as the main tool.

Cypriots came in second with an increase of 1.65%, reaching 64,003, compared to 62,962 last year. In addition, the Germans remained stable in third place, but they increased by 9.33%. Specifically, in the first half of 2018, the number of German visitors reached 39,351, up from 35,992 last year.

On the contrary, Turkey fell to 6th place, visitors to that country dropping 21.42%, from 39,414 last year to 30,972 nights. As a result, Bulgarians fell by 15.22% and Russians by 11.12%.

Finally, a decrease of 16.02% was recorded for the nights of visitors to FYROM, which in the first half of 2018 was 8,404, while the same year last year was 10.007, leaving this nationality in 16th position
