MARQUETTE – Retired Marquette Fire Department captain Jeff Green recently applied for the 109th District seat at Michigan House as a Republican.

The seat is currently occupied by limited-time State Representative Sara Cambensy, D-Marquette, who took office on November 16, 2017. Her current term ends on December 31, 2022.

In a press release, Green, a career former firefighter / EMT, described the top three issues that drive him to run: mental health, energy stability, and EMS service. These three problems, along with others, require attention and action, he said.

“As a paramedic, I have witnessed the dramatic increase in untreated mental health issues. The lack of mental health facilities in northern Michigan demands that our already strained resources be used to the maximum ”, Green said in the statement. “As winter approaches, reliable propane is vital for many residents and families in our district. People get their contracts for the winter and find propane to be much more expensive than last winter. We must be concerned that the recently announced shortage does not affect our community and ensure that the propane supplies we rely on are readily available, now and in the future.

Green and his wife, Lynn, together have four children and three grandchildren. Green is a graduate of Northern Michigan University and a lifelong resident of Marquette. Green followed in his father’s footsteps and served the community in the Marquette Fire Department as a firefighter and EMT. He recently retired from his captain’s position and now owns and operates Green’s Home Improvement.

Green has served on boards of directors that include the Salvation Army Advisory Council, Marquette State Fire Safety Board, and was a member and past chair of the County of EMS Medical Monitoring Advisory Board. Marquette / Algiers.

Green also achieved certifications and accreditation levels during his tenure serving the Marquette community, the statement said.

“Service before you is what I was taught and after retiring from the Marquette fire department, I decided I had more to give” said Vert. “I’m not ready to stop serving, and what better way than to go to Lansing and fight for my neighbors.”

The 109th District of State House is made up of Algiers, Luce, and Schoolcraft counties and most of Marquette County.

Forsyth Township Supervisor Joe Boogren announced in May his intention to run as the Democratic candidate for that State House district.
