SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The Greene County District Attorney’s Office has dropped several charges against a man charged in a shooting at a Springfield nightclub.

The shooting took place outside of Club Rodeo in West Springfield in August. The victim was shot in the arm. Investigators say several shots were fired in the club’s parking lot around 1:30 a.m.

Dimitri Dudley, 27, has been charged with first degree assault, criminal action with a weapon, illegal use of a weapon and illegal possession of a weapon. Prosecutors say they have held one count of illegal possession of a weapon.

Prosecutors also charged Montavius Warren, 25, with resisting / interfering with the arrest in the case.

“I spoke with several of the witnesses involved, the first being the shooting victim, the person who was shot,” said Dudley’s lawyer Lacon Smith.

Smith claims the victim has repeatedly stated that his client was not the person who fired the shots. Pending his preliminary hearing, Dudley has been held in prison.

“He was originally held without bail in jail, and then we got the judge to put at least one bond,” Smith said.

Smith said the judge later set Dudley’s bail at $ 2 million, a price he couldn’t pay.

“He was afraid that he wouldn’t be able to see his friends, family, girlfriend or child,” Smith said. “He was really worried about never going out because he had already been sentenced.”

Charges remain for illegal possession of a firearm.

“He was arrested in a vehicle after the shooting at Club Rodeo, he was a passenger and a gun was found during this search,” Smith said. “He’s been charged with possession of this weapon and we’re just going to talk about it in a circuit court. “

Smith said that although Dudley’s name has been deleted from his involvement in the shooting, he is concerned the case will impact his life in the future.

“He was worried that he would be able to find and keep a job because of this accusation and he is a father and has a family so he worries that he will not be able to support his family,” Smith said.

Greene County District Attorney Dan Patterson said the case is still under investigation and additional charges may follow. He notes that investigators say there were two shooters at the crime scene. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call Detective Jacob Miller of the Springfield Police Department at (417) 864-1810.
