Grey’s Anatomy Recap: Season 18, Episode 2 – Some Kind of Tomorrow

“It sounds like the good old days,” Bailey told Richard on Thursday’s show. Grey’s Anatomy. And by gauze he did it. As we savored the ‘Some Kind of Tomorrow’ of the post-COVID era, Webber challenged residents to ‘the toughest surgical workout ever,’ Meredith asked for advice. ‘Amelia on David’s life-changing offer, and Nick… well Scott Speedman fantastically Scott Speedman had all the scenes he was in, throwing so many sparks, the whole thing probably had to be cleaned up hairspray lest it present a fire hazard. And if you keep reading, we’ll go over all the highlights from the episode …

“THIS IS A VERY OLD WAY TO ASK A GIRL FOR A APPOINTMENT” | At the start of “Some Kind of Tomorrow,” Nick stuck a note under the door of Mer’s hotel room… and got caught. It wasn’t important; she always happily agreed to have dinner with him that night at 7 o’clock. In Seattle, Link and Jo were sort of co-parents, while Winston was missed by Maggie, who worked so much he slept at work. Nearby, Sara reported to her fellow citizens that mom Alma had been transferred to work more closely with Team Jackson. And Richard had big plans for most of them. From there, we drove back to Minnesota, where Amelia had arrived to see the lab that was being offered to Mer. “Oh, you sure won’t be coming back to Seattle,” laughed Amelia. But the millions were not only offered to Mer now, they were also offered to Amelia, because her sister-in-law was inviting her to be a part of it. Ouch.

In Gray Sloan, Teddy hovered protectively over Leo, who had decided to dress as Elsa from Frozen for the day. Sara teamed up with Winston to treat Reshida, who suffered from diabetes and kidney failure. She would start dialysis, her assistant reported. When she reported that she wasn’t even able to make it on a transplant list, Winston wanted to take action. But Reshida was sure she wasn’t long for this world. Along with his students, Richard announced that they would undergo a rigorous series of surgical simulations and assessments. “The resident with the highest score,” he added, “flies solo to the ER” that day with an operation to match his skills. Well, okay, so go on! The first round went to Levi. The next trick we saw went to Mabel. And just like that, Richard announced that Levi won the contest. He could have rubbed on Jo’s old knees during a foreign body extraction (on a woman who had already had a strawberry removed, um, you know). Meanwhile, Dr Wong has signaled to Bailey that he is retiring, whether or not she wants to write detective novels.

“THOSE WHO NEED RESCUE CARE MUST GET IT” | Running into a nephrologist who served as a wall between Reshida and qualifying for inclusion on the transplant list – because she adhered to incorrect clinical assumptions that ignored the differences between blacks and whites – Winston appealed to Bailey, then took action himself. He again approached the nephrologist, who supported EGFR but said she would review his claims. Of course, there was no time for it. It was suddenly do or die time for Reshida, and Winston wasn’t about to let her die. So he broke protocol, crossing his fingers so he could give her a transplant before it was too late.

Treating an injured boy, Megan charmed Cormac. In the adjoining examination room, the boy’s father was doing exceptionally badly; he had passed out while driving and was having trouble breathing. Before you knew it, he was coughing up blood and Owen was calling his fiancee for a consultation. As she wondered if they should stop letting Leo get dressed, she and Owen discovered that the patient’s lungs looked like a war zone. He had pulmonary fibrosis, he reported. And he didn’t want treatment, he just wanted to spend the time he had left with his son. “Watch yourself break the rules and save lives,” Megan joked to the newlyweds. “Aren’t you glad I made you tie the knot?” Despite Owen’s determination to save the terminally ill patient, Cormac let him go home.

In Minnesota, Amelia examined David, who was not interested in a bandage for his Parkinson’s disease, only something that would make him whole again. Soon, if I’m not mistaken, sparks leaped between Amelia and David’s brilliant colleague, Dr Bartley; for Amelia, there was no decision to make – Mer had to say yes and cure Parkinson’s disease. Although Mer recoiled at Amelia’s enthusiasm, Scout’s mother held on. “You’re being ridiculous because you haven’t accepted the offer yet,” Amelia said. Hell, this was Mer’s chance to get back into neuro. Why would she move away from it? Amelia asked… as Nick stood, looking adorable. Back in Seattle, Levi succeeded in his extraction in front of a gallery full of his peers …

‘YOU ONLY DON’T SAVE MY LIFE, YOU CHANGE IT’ | Finally, as the hour drew to a close, Meredith showed up for her date with Nick, who admitted that she might want to change into something less chic. Why was that? He took her on a picnic in the woods. “That’s why I reduced my hours,” he explained. He lacked everything, including star gazing. She didn’t do much, she admitted. “We’re going to have so much fun,” he replied. Gradually, she shared that she was afraid to say yes to David and then fail. “I have a very comfortable situation in Seattle”, on the other hand. “You are not a security person,” Nick suggested. “You’re going to risk it all and win or lose, it’s going to be a hell of a trick.” Back in Gray Sloan, Winston reported to Reshida that she was on the transplant list. “Honestly, I never thought I would see that day,” she said. “I can go back to who I was.”

Alone with Richard, Bailey worried that she was losing doctors every day. They needed everyone to feel like they were all in the same boat again. “You want people to remember the why,” he said. Fortunately, he had great ideas. Finally, Link sang Scout the saddest lullaby of his failed proposal. “Everything will be fine,” Jo assured him. Back in Gray Sloan, Teddy worried a little more about the cruelty of Leo and the people with him. They will, Owen admitted, but they themselves wouldn’t. “So let’s let him be happy.” And in the final seconds of the episode, Mer made a few requests of David, including that they hand over the entire project to Gray Sloan. When that notion was rejected, she came up with an alternative: “I could set up a satellite lab in Seattle” and go back and forth once a week. “Done,” he replied. “Does that mean you’re in it?” Indeed, he did.
