The Texas A&M women’s swim and diving team defeated the Houston Cougars, 163.5-130.5, as they opened their road season at CRWC Natatorium Thursday afternoon. The Aggies won first place in 12 of the day’s 16 events.
Texas A&M got off to a good start as a freshman 200 IM relay team Kaitlyn owens, junior Andrea Perttula, Senior Caroline Theil and second Bobbi kennett took first place, with a time of 1: 42.23.
Second year transfer Abby grottle had a successful debut for the Aggies as she claimed her first victory in the 1000 freestyle clocking 10: 07.53, and later added a first place finish in the 500 freestyle (4: 55.85).
second year students Chloe stepanek and Olivia theall each posted a pair of better finishes that day for Texas A&M. Stepanek won the 200 freestyle (1: 48.65) and 100 freestyle (50.18), while Theall swept the butterfly events, clocking 2: 02.04 in the 200 butterfly and 54.52 in the 100 butterfly.
First year of Texas A&M Aviv Barzelay impressed on her college debut as she took first place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.16 and added another top finish with a time of 2: 00.11 in the 200 backstroke.
Elders Aimee Wilson and Chloe Ceyanes were a double on the springboards as Wilson had the best scores of 303.15 in the 1m and 342.75 in the 3m, and Ceyanes added second place points with a score of 289.88 in the 1m and 292.28 at 3 meters.
The Aggies will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 15 when they host Texas.
