A gunman shot and killed two people at a shopping mall in northern California on Friday as Black Friday shopping was in full swing, The Associated Press reported.

The incident resulted in the deaths of a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy. The youngest boy was found seriously injured at the scene and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

“I heard a few gunshots, I didn’t really think about it,” Antwon Martinez, an employee of the mall, told the AP. “And more and more kept walking, so everyone started running towards our back room.… Everyone just started running.”

The Sacramento Police Department has yet to release a suspect profile; however, he said he was actively looking for a man in his twenties, according to the AP.

“We will do everything we can to identify the suspect (s) involved in this incident and make an arrest,” police spokesman Officer Karl Chan said at a press conference, according to The Sacramento Bee.

Chan added that the shooting was an isolated incident and a targeted attack.

The shooting comes as Sacramento and other cities in California have seen increased violence during the COVID-19 pandemic, the AP reported.
