Gunman suspected of shooting, killing captured postman after shooting with police – WSB-TV Channel 2

TRADE, Georgia – Police said a gunman was in custody after shooting and killing a postman while touring a rural road in northeast Georgia on Saturday.

The Banks County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to reports of a person shot dead on Hebron Road in Commerce around 9:30 a.m.

Police found Asa (Junior) Wood, 59, dead from a gunshot wound.

Investigators were able to identify a person of interest and MPs were provided with a description of the suspect’s car.

TRENDING STORIES:

MPs patrolling an area near Highway 51 spotted the car and attempted to carry out a traffic check.

The driver accelerated but an assistant was able to perform a PIT maneuver and deactivate the car.

MPs said the suspect immediately started shooting at officers, who retaliated, hitting him.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The GBI has been asked to investigate the shooting involving an officer.
