Hamill wins ACC, College Soccer News Weekly Honors

DURHAM – Following a shutout by ACC rival North Carolina, senior goaltender of Duke Eliot Hamill was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week and College Soccer News National Player of the Week. Hamill was also the headliner for College Soccer News’s Team of the Week.

Hamill won his first National College Soccer News Player of the Week award and his second weekly ACC honor. He previously won the ACC Defensive Player of the Week on September 7. The elder has now equaled Clemson goalkeeper George Marks, each having two nods each. With his second ACC honor of the season, Hamill awarded Duke two ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors in the same season for the first time since 2015 (Markus Fjørtoft and Jared rist).

The awards follow a 3-0 victory for the No.12 Blue Devils over No.16 North Carolina. Hamill was instrumental in the victory, making six saves and registering his fourth shutout in five starts this season. His efforts saw the Blue Devils beat the Tar Heels by multiple goals for the first time since a 4-0 win on November 12, 1999 and win by the largest margin of victory at Chapel Hill since a 6-2 win on the 10th. The Scarsdale, NY native is second in the nation in save percentage (0.957), fourth in goals against average (0.193) and tied for fourth in shutouts (4). In other weekly honors, second-year defenseman Amir Daley was named honorable mention for the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.

Hamill and the Blue Devils complete a two-game road swing on Saturday, September 25, as they travel to play against Syracuse. The kick-off is set at 7 p.m.
