As Google Chat continues to ruthlessly wipe the floor with Hangouts, including its recent decision to no longer allow you to make group calls in the old app, they’ve now decided to migrate all of your Hangouts group chats. and the history saved in Google Chat in order to ensure a smooth transition.

Interestingly enough, the update will apply to all levels of Workspace outside of Workspace Essentials and Enterprise Essentials for now. In addition to seeing your old group conversations in Chat, you will also be able to add and edit new members. Anyone added later will be able to see the entire conversation, including items that were sent before joining, so they can easily catch up. In older Hangouts, a user could only see chats when they joined and after.
To remind you to migrate your users to Google Chat before the guillotine hits Hangouts, the Workspace team recommends that admins review their existing retention policies in their console. You can create a new Google Chat group using the migrated Hangouts chat group if you want by selecting the “Start New Chat” button from the chat menu so that it can enjoy all the features of the chat. new app in the future.
