USC Athletics on Monday announced another change to the kickoff time of its Pac-12 North crossover match with Washington State, now scheduled for Sunday. Kick-off was originally scheduled for 6:30 p.m., then moved to 6:00 p.m. PT, but will now start at 4:30 p.m. PT. It will be televised on FS1.
USCFootball.com reported that USC officials have made the decision to move the game from Friday to Sunday. The additional two days will allow the Trojans to fully overcome positive COVID-19 tests and players who were put on contract tracing last week.
For now, this will only be the second game of the season for the Trojans (3-0); USC beat Utah 33-17 in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. USC announced the cancellation of its great Pac-12 South game with a surprisingly undefeated Colorado team (3-0) Thursday night.
USC announced last Tuesday that a player had tested positive for COVID-19 and was symptomatic. A full range of tests over the next 24 hours revealed another positive (asymptomatic) player. The school also quarantined five players due to contact tracing protocols. Early Thursday, USC returned to virtual practice as a precaution to test a player who was showing symptoms of a potential COVID-19 infection. Several hours later, the game was canceled.
“After consultation with USC, the Pac-12 Conference announced that the game involving Colorado at USC scheduled for Saturday, November 28 will not be played,” the statement read. This decision was made as part of Pac-12 football policy due to the fact that USC does not have the minimum number of fellows available for the match at a specific group of positions due to a number of positive cases of COVID-19 student-athletes and resulting isolation.Additional football student-athletes as per contact tracing protocols. In accordance with Conference policy, the match will be declared no contested.
Washington State is 1-2 on the season and third against Pac-12 North. The Cougars have had their last two games canceled due to COVID-19 issues.
USCFootball.com editor Ryan Abraham recently suspended the game between USC and the Cougars before the start of the season.
As the Cougars broke into a new coaching staff with no spring football practice to implement the systems, their regional health restrictions were somewhat reasonable, allowing the WSU to train over the summer. Rolovich was given a tough job against opponents Pac-12 North and USC in their crossover match. WSU has two back-to-back games Friday night (Washington, USC) but gets the top teams in the North at Pullman (Oregon, Washington, Calif.). The key for the Cougars will be to start the attack at home, giving the Cougs a chance for the punchers to beat their opponents and pull off one or two upsets.
