ASHBURN, Va. – The scene was different for a rookie minicamp from the Washington Redskins, with about thirty members of the media present. It's been seven years since they are organizing this kind of rally for a beginner minicamp. But, as in the days of Robert Griffin III, the Redskins have a quarterback their last symbol of hope: Dwayne Haskins.
The Redskins still do not know if the Haskins will start this season, as coach Jay Gruden said there would be an open competition for the No. 1 post. They know though that after two days of mini-camp rookie, Haskins impressed.
"It's a treat," said Gruden. "He made shots that turn his head without a doubt."
Doug Williams, Senior Vice President of Redskins Player Staff, added, "It does not take long for the ball to pass from point A to point B."

The Redskins, who recruited Haskins with the 15th overall pick, preach patience. This does not mean that he will not show up at the starting position because he has been chosen so high for a reason.
They know that there is a learning curve for the Haskins, and two days of work against other recruits do not lend themselves to great conclusions. On Saturday, in his first work with the media present, Haskins showed his living arm.
Gruden said Haskins had launched better Friday than Saturday, while he had missed several shots – some were high, some were late and others were on target. During one-on-one work, however, Haskins connected to a number of passes for the red zone, including a fade-out to the former teammate from the Ohio State. Gruden said he did not enjoy a three-man competition for the starting post because it's hard to split the reps to give enough chances to every quarterback.
"The most important thing in the next few weeks is, let's see how far we can push this guy," said Gruden. "Let's see if there is a chance that he can win the job." If we feel he's moving more slowly, then we may have to push Case or push Colt, but if we feel that [Haskins] comes and he shoots and he is comfortable, so we will play and see what happens. "
Haskins said he would adopt the same approach as the one adopted at Ohio State.
"I'll be ready for anything the coaches want from me, whether it starts right away or next year or during the season," Haskins said. "I will prepare myself as if I were the starter."
But he also admitted that waiting two years before playing there was not easy – and he lit up his mindset.
"Absolutely difficult," said Haskins. "Every competitor wants to play, but you have to know that it's for the team, it's bigger than you, and if the coaches feel that I'm the best option to win games this year I will be more than happy.She said I'm not ready, I'll make sure I'm ready. "
The Redskins want to improve Haskins' footwork. They want him to feel comfortable coming home from the center, which he did not do with the Buckeyes. They want him to get used to putting his feet back under pressure.

But all that interests Haskins, he says, is what is happening on the ground.
"The most important thing I have to do is play well on Sunday, and that's all I can not wait," Haskins said. "All other things come when it is necessary."
