Norfolk Hills Police were called to the scene at around 8:15 p.m., where medics were assisting the victims, said Lt. Venerando Costa of the Alleghany County Police Homicide Unit. Authorities said an argument among a large group of teenagers led to the shooting.
The two boys were taken to hospital, where one died and the other is still in critical condition.
Costa said police were chasing a suspect described as a 15 to 17-year-old male, 5 feet 9 to 6 feet tall, wearing a black T-shirt and dark blue cargo shorts. He also had a black backpack.
