Teams fight house fire on Sunday morning

CASPER, Wyo. – Casper Fire-EMS officials say crews were able to put out a blaze that left people displaced on Sunday morning.

A statement from Casper Fire-EMS said firefighters were dispatched around 4:15 a.m. to respond to a reported structure fire in the 200 block of North Elk Street in Casper.

Fire crews reported their arrival to find thick smoke coming from a single-family home.

“Crews searched the house and confirmed that all occupants were out and found,” officials said. “An occupant was assessed on site for minor smoke inhalation, but was not taken to hospital.”

Crews reportedly found the fire in the downstairs bathroom of the house and it was quickly put out.

“The smoke and heat damage was significant on the first floor. The damage to the bathroom and to the adjacent hallway was considerable. Two occupants were displaced because of the fire, ”said firefighters.

The City-County Firefighters Burn Fund helped with a check to help while the occupants are moved.

Four Casper Fire-EMS units responded, along with the serving battalion commander, Chief
Officers and an investigator.

“Casper Fire-EMS reminds everyone that working smoke detectors save lives. Smoke detectors must be located on each floor of your home, in common living spaces and in bedrooms, ”said firefighters. “Test your smoke detectors monthly to make sure they are in good working order. If you have older smoke detectors, change the batteries twice a year. Newer smoke detectors come with batteries that can last up to 10 years without replacement.
