Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported one new coronavirus-related death and 437 new confirmed and probable infections statewide, bringing the state’s total since the start of the pandemic to 543 deaths and 46,940 cases.
The latest death occurred in Oahu. No further information was immediately available regarding the latest deaths.
The state’s official coronavirus death toll includes 417 deaths on Oahu, 62 on Maui, 59 on the island of Hawaii, two in Kauai, and three Hawaii residents who died out of state.
The number of coronavirus-related deaths in the United States today is over 617,000 and the number of infections nationwide is over 35.8 million.
“We really need to reduce the number of our cases now through Labor Day or there will be unnecessary and tragic loss of life,” Green said in a Facebook and Instagram post this morning.
Today’s new number of confirmed and probable infections by island includes 293 new cases in Oahu, 56 in Maui County, 67 in the island of Hawaii, 16 in Kauai and five Hawaii residents diagnosed in out of state.
State health officials included probable infections in the total number of cases. Likely infections include people who have never received a confirmatory test but who would have had the virus because of their exposure and known symptoms or because of a positive antigen test.
The total number of confirmed and probable coronavirus cases per island since the start of the epidemic is 33,701 in Oahu, 5,599 in Maui, 4,880 in Hawaii County, 650 in Kauai, 117 in Lanai and 94 in Molokai. There are also 1,899 residents of Hawaii who have been diagnosed out of state.
Today’s probable infections since the start of the pandemic added to today’s tally include 1,020 in Maui, 909 in Oahu, 129 on the island of Hawaii, 28 in Molokai, seven in Kauai, three in Lanai and 73 residents diagnosed out of state.
Statistics released today reflect the new cases of infection reported to the department on Saturday.
The state’s 7-day average positivity rate is 7.29% and the total number of hospital patients in Hawaii is now 225, according to Green.
