Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported 11 new coronavirus-related deaths and 493 new confirmed and probable infections statewide, bringing the state’s total since the start of the pandemic to 671 deaths and 73,268 cases.
Eight of the latest deaths have been in Oahu, one on the island of Hawaii and two in Kauai. All of the deceased had underlying conditions and were hospitalized.
Oahu’s deaths included a man in his thirties, two men in his fifties, three men in their sixties, a man in his sixties and a woman in his sixties. Kauai’s deaths included a 70-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman. The only dead on the island of Hawaii was a man in his sixties.
The state’s official coronavirus death toll includes 511 deaths in Oahu, 79 in Maui, 67 in the island of Hawaii, eight in Kauai, one in Molokai, and five Hawaii residents who died outside of the state. State.
The number of coronavirus-related deaths in the United States today is over 664,000 and the number of infections nationwide is over 41.4 million.
Today’s new number of confirmed and probable infections by island includes 314 new cases in Oahu, 62 in Maui, 89 in the island of Hawaii, 19 in Kauai, three in Molokai and six residents of Hawaii diagnosed out of state.
State health officials included probable infections in the total number of cases. Likely infections include people who have never received a confirmatory test but are suspected of having had the virus because of their exposure and known symptoms or because of a positive antigen test.
The total number of confirmed and probable coronavirus cases per island since the start of the epidemic is 51,225 in Oahu, 8,504 in Maui, 9,111 in Hawaii County, 1,829 in Kauai, 137 in Lanai and 185 in Molokai. There are also 2,277 Hawaii residents who have been diagnosed out of state.
Statistics released today reflect the new cases of infection reported to the department on Monday.
Health officials also said today that, of the state’s total infections, 8,967 cases were considered active. Officials say they view infections reported in the past 14 days as a “proxy number for active cases.” The state’s total number of active cases has now increased by 80.
Per island, Oahu has 6,098 active cases, the Big Island has 1,381, Maui has 956, Kauai has 504, Lanai has five, and Molokai has 23.
Health officials counted 8,685 new COVID-19 test results in today’s tally, for a statewide positivity rate of 5.68%. The state’s 7-day average positivity rate is 6.7%, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard.
Hawaii’s latest COVID-19 vaccine summary shows 1,942,478 doses of the vaccine have been administered through state and federal distribution programs as of Tuesday, up 4,160 from the previous day. Health officials say 65.8% of the state’s population is now fully vaccinated and 74.1% have received at least one dose.
Of all confirmed cases of infection in Hawaii, 3,945 required hospitalizations, with 62 new hospitalizations reported today.
Nineteen hospitalizations in the state’s overall tally are residents of Hawaii who were diagnosed and treated out of state. Of the 3,926 hospitalizations in the state, 3,184 were in Oahu, 446 in Maui, 257 in Big Island, 32 in Kauai, five in Lanai and two in Molokai.
According to the latest information from the department’s Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard, a total of 341 patients with the virus have been in hospitals in Hawaii to date, including 76 in intensive care units and 66 on ventilators.
The seven-day average number of cases for Oahu is 397 and the seven-day average positivity rate is 8.1%, state health officials said today.
