Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported two new coronavirus-related deaths in Oahu and an additional 276 confirmed and probable infections statewide, bringing the state total since the start of the pandemic to 529 deaths and 40,659 cases.
Today is the 11th consecutive day of new triple-digit infections in Hawaii, the highest spike in cases in the state since January.
No further information was immediately available regarding the latest deaths.
The state’s official coronavirus death toll includes 410 deaths on Oahu, 58 on Maui, 56 on the island of Hawaii, two in Kauai and three Hawaii residents who died out of state.
The number of coronavirus-related deaths in the United States today is over 610,000 and the number of infections nationwide is over 34.4 million.
Today’s new number of confirmed and probable infections by island includes 166 cases in Oahu, 65 on the island of Hawaii, 22 in Maui, six in Kauai, and 17 Hawaii residents diagnosed outside of Hawaii. State.
State health officials included probable infections in the total number of cases. Likely infections include people who have never received a confirmatory test but are suspected of having had the virus because of their exposure and known symptoms or because of a positive antigen test.
The total number of confirmed and probable coronavirus cases per island since the start of the epidemic is 29,648 in Oahu, 4,934 in Maui, 3,706 in Hawaii County, 514 in Kauai, 117 in Lanai and 81 in Molokai. There are also 1,659 residents of Hawaii who have been diagnosed out of state.
Statistics released today reflect the new cases of infection reported to the department on Friday.
Health officials also said today that of the state’s total infections, 1,953 cases were considered active. Officials say they view infections reported in the past 14 days as a “proxy number for active cases.” The state’s total number of active cases today increased by 176.
Per island, Oahu has 1,324 active cases, the Big Island has 352, Maui has 177, Kauai has 97, Lanai has two, and Molokai has one.
Health officials counted 4,904 new COVID-19 test results in today’s tally, for a statewide positivity rate of more than 5%. The state’s 7-day average positivity rate is 4.7%, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard.
Hawaii’s latest COVID-19 vaccine summary shows 1,729,884 doses of vaccine have been administered through state and federal distribution programs as of Thursday. Health officials said on Friday that 59.6% of the state’s population were now fully vaccinated and 66.2% had received at least one dose.
Of all confirmed cases of infection in Hawaii, 2,631 required hospitalizations, with seven new hospitalizations – three each in Oahu and Maui, and one on the island of Hawaii – reported today.
Fourteen hospitalizations in the state’s aggregate tally are residents of Hawaii who were diagnosed and treated out of state. Of the 2,617 hospitalizations in the state, 2,133 were in Oahu, 309 in Maui, 155 in Big Island, 97 in Kauai, five in Lanai and one in Molokai.
According to the latest information from the department’s Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard, a total of 74 patients with the virus were in hospitals in Hawaii on Friday, including 17 in intensive care units and 11 on ventilators.
