Hawaii records 7 new coronavirus deaths, 429 more infections

Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported seven new coronavirus-related deaths and 429 new confirmed and probable infections statewide, bringing the state’s total since the start of the pandemic to 633 deaths and 69,573 cases.

All of the latest deaths have been in Oahu. No further information was immediately available regarding the latest deaths.

The state’s official coronavirus death toll includes 485 deaths in Oahu, 76 in Maui, 63 in the island of Hawaii, four in Kauai, one in Molokai, and four Hawaii residents who died outside of the state. State.

The number of coronavirus-related deaths in the United States today is over 653,000 and the number of infections nationwide is over 40.6 million.

Today’s new number of confirmed and probable infections by island includes 273 new cases in Oahu, 63 in Maui, 52 in the island of Hawaii, 33 in Kauai and eight Hawaii residents diagnosed outside the ‘State.

State health officials included probable infections in the total number of cases. Likely infections include people who have never received a confirmatory test but are suspected of having had the virus because of their exposure and known symptoms or because of a positive antigen test.

The total number of confirmed and probable coronavirus cases per island since the start of the epidemic is 48,716 in Oahu, 8,150 in Maui, 8,542 in Hawaii County, 1,638 in Kauai, 134 in Lanai and 166 in Molokai. There are also 2,227 residents of Hawaii who have been diagnosed out of state.

Statistics released today reflect the new cases of infection reported to the department on Tuesday.

Health officials also said today that out of the state’s total number of infections, 10,582 cases were considered active. Officials say they view infections reported in the past 14 days as a “proxy number for active cases.” The state’s total number of active cases has now fallen by 485.

Per island, Oahu has 7,355 active cases, Big Island 1,576, Maui 1,118, Kauai 518, Lanai five, and Molokai 10.

Hawaii’s latest COVID-19 vaccine summary shows 1,911,540 doses of the vaccine were administered through state and federal distribution programs on Wednesday, up 3,242 from the previous day. Health officials say 64.8% of the state’s population are now fully vaccinated and 73% have received at least one dose.

Of all confirmed cases of infection in Hawaii, 3,822 required hospitalizations, with 28 new hospitalizations reported today.

Nineteen hospitalizations in the state’s overall tally are residents of Hawaii who were diagnosed and treated out of state. Of the 3,803 hospitalizations in the state, 3,103 were in Oahu, 431 in Maui, 233 in Big Island, 29 in Kauai, five in Lanai and two in Molokai.

The seven-day average number of cases for Oahu is 411 and the seven-day average positivity rate is 8.0%, state health officials said today.
