Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported eight new coronavirus-related deaths and 569 new confirmed and probable infections statewide, bringing the state’s total since the start of the pandemic to 702 deaths and 75,006 cases.
No further information was immediately available regarding the six deaths on Oahu, one death on the island of Hawaii and one death on Maui.
The state’s official coronavirus death toll includes 532 deaths in Oahu, 81 in Maui, 75 on the island of Hawaii, eight in Kauai, one in Molokai, and five Hawaii residents who died outside of the state. State.
The number of coronavirus-related deaths in the United States today is over 672,000 and the number of infections nationwide is over 42 million.
Today’s new number of confirmed and probable infections per island includes 367 new cases in Oahu, 50 in Maui, 79 in the island of Hawaii, 46 in Kauai, six in Molokai, two in Lanai and 19 residents of Hawaii diagnosed out of state.
State health officials included probable infections in the total number of cases. Likely infections include people who have never received a confirmatory test but are suspected of having had the virus because of their exposure and known symptoms or because of a positive antigen test.
The total number of confirmed and probable coronavirus cases per island since the start of the epidemic is 53,349 in Oahu, 8,676 in Maui, 9,375 in Hawaii County, 1,952 in Kauai, 139 in Lanai and 196 in Molokai. There are also 2,319 residents of Hawaii who have been diagnosed out of state.
Health officials also said today that, of the state’s total infections, 7,982 cases were considered active. Officials say they view infections reported in the past 14 days as a “proxy number for active cases.” The state’s total number of active cases has now declined by 303.
Per island, Oahu has 5,463 active cases, the Big Island has 1,219, Maui has 761, Kauai has 502, Lanai has six, and Molokai has 31.
Of all confirmed cases of infection in Hawaii, 4,001 required hospitalizations, with 20 new hospitalizations reported today.
Nineteen hospitalizations in the state’s overall tally are residents of Hawaii who were diagnosed and treated out of state. Of the 3,982 hospitalizations in the state, 3,220 were in Oahu, 452 in Maui, 269 in Big Island, 33 in Kauai, five in Lanai and three in Molokai.
The seven-day average number of cases for Oahu is 367 and the seven-day average positivity rate is 7.1%, state health officials said today.
