Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported 108 new coronavirus infections, bringing the state’s total since the start of the pandemic to 26,393 cases.
State health officials reported no new coronavirus-related deaths today, with the statewide death toll remaining at 416.
The state’s official coronavirus death toll includes 333 deaths in Oahu, 53 on the island of Hawaii, 26 in Maui, one in Kauai, and three Hawaii residents who died out of state.
The coronavirus-related death toll in the United States was over 461,000 today.
New statewide cases of infection reported today by the Department of Health include 86 in Oahu, 16 in Maui, one case each on Big Island, Kauai and Lanai, and three residents diagnosed outside Hawaii, officials said. Following updated information, an Oahu case was taken off accounts.
Statistics released today reflect the new cases of infection reported to the department on Thursday.
The total number of coronavirus cases per island since the start of the epidemic is 21,289 in Oahu, 2,188 in Hawaii County, 1,849 in Maui, 179 in Kauai, 109 in Lanai and 25 in Molokai. There are also 754 Hawaii residents diagnosed out of state.
Health officials also said today that of the state’s total infections, 1,318 cases were considered active. Officials say they regard infections reported in the past 14 days as a “surrogate number for active cases.” The number of active cases in the state has fallen by 24 today.
Per island, Oahu has 964 active cases, Maui has 278, the Big Island has 71, Kauai has three, and Lanai has three, according to the state’s latest tally. Molokai does not have any active COVID cases.
Health officials counted 9,206 new COVID-19 test results in today’s tally, for a statewide positivity rate of 1.17%. The state’s 7-day average positivity rate is 1.8%, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard.
Of all confirmed cases of infection in Hawaii, 1,745 required hospitalizations, with 13 new hospitalizations reported today by state health officials.
Four statewide hospitalizations are residents of Hawaii who were diagnosed and treated out of state. Of the 1,741 hospitalizations in the state, 1,526 were in Oahu, 104 in Maui, 98 in Big Island, 7 in Kauai, 5 in Lanai and 1 in Molokai.
According to the latest information from the department’s Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard, a total of 64 patients infected with the virus were in hospitals in Hawaii as of Friday morning, including 17 in intensive care units and 13 on ventilators.
Health officials said as of Jan. 31, 157,018 vaccines had been administered out of the 227,600 received by the state. The vaccinations administered by county are Honolulu, 105,500; Maui, 14,391; Hawaii, 15,035 and Kauai, 11,755. The total also included several thousand administered under the federal pharmacy program. State officials release updated vaccination numbers verified every Wednesday.
Oahu moved to the less restrictive Level 2 of Honolulu’s four-tier economic stimulus package on October 22. To assess whether Honolulu will move to a different level, the city conducts a “weekly assessment” of two key COVID-19 figures every Wednesday. . To move to level 3 of level 2, the 7-day average of new cases must be less than 50 on two consecutive Wednesdays. In addition, the average 7-day positivity rate must be less than 2.5% on these two Wednesdays.
Today, the seven-day average number of cases for Oahu is 61 and the seven-day average positivity rate is 2.4%, according to Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi.
Blangiardi said he hoped to stay at Level 2, a four-level framework established by former Mayor Kirk Caldwell. Under level 3, social gatherings of up to 10 would be allowed, up from 5 under level 2, and retail businesses would be able to operate at full capacity, instead of 50% of their capacity below level 2.
