Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported three new coronavirus-related deaths and 82 additional infections, bringing state totals since the start of the pandemic to 410 deaths and 25,853 cases.
Two of the latest deaths were in Oahu and the third in Maui. No further details were immediately disclosed about the deaths.
The state’s official coronavirus death toll includes 327 deaths in Oahu, 53 on the island of Hawaii, 26 in Maui, one in Kauai, and three Hawaii residents who died out of state.
The coronavirus-related death toll in the United States was nearly 441,000 today.
New cases of infection reported today by the statewide health department include 59 in Oahu, 11 on the Big Island, eight in Maui and four residents diagnosed outside of Hawaii, officials said.
Statistics released today reflect the new cases of infection reported to the department on Friday.

The total number of coronavirus cases per island since the start of the epidemic is 20,923 in Oahu, 2,162 in Hawaii County, 1,734 in Maui, 178 in Kauai, 107 in Lanai and 25 in Molokai. There are also 724 Hawaii residents diagnosed out of state. As a result of updated information, a case from Maui has been reclassified to the island of Hawaii, state officials said today.
Health officials also said today that of the state’s total infections, 1,412 cases are considered active. Officials say they regard infections reported in the past 14 days as a “surrogate number for active cases.” The number of active cases in the state has fallen by 44 today.
Per island, Oahu has 1,040 active cases, Maui has 276, the Big Island has 90, Kauai has five and Lanai has one, according to the state’s latest tally. Molokai does not have any active COVID cases.
Health officials counted 4,569 new COVID-19 test results in today’s tally, for a statewide positivity rate of 1.7%. The state’s 7-day average positivity rate is 2.2%, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard.
Of all confirmed cases of infection in Hawaii, 1,696 required hospitalizations, with two new hospitalizations in Oahu reported today by state health officials.
Four statewide hospitalizations are residents of Hawaii who were diagnosed and treated out of state. Of the 1,692 hospitalizations in the state, 1,484 were in Oahu, 99 in Maui, 96 in Big Island, 7 in Kauai, 5 in Lanai and 1 in Molokai.
According to the latest information from the department’s Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard, a total of 75 patients infected with the virus were in hospitals in Hawaii as of Friday morning, including 20 in intensive care units and 15 on ventilators.
Health officials said as of Jan. 24, 106,654 vaccines had been administered out of the 170,975 received by the state. The vaccinations administered by county are Honolulu, 68,521; Maui, 11,060; Hawaii, 10,459 and Kauai, 8,799. The total also included several thousand administered under the federal pharmacy program. State officials release updated immunization numbers every Wednesday.
Oahu moved to the less restrictive Level 2 of Honolulu’s four-tier economic stimulus package on October 22. . To move to level 3 of level 2, the 7-day average of new cases must be less than 50 on two consecutive Wednesdays. In addition, the average 7-day positivity rate must be less than 2.5% on these two Wednesdays.
Today, the seven-day average number of cases for Oahu is 70 and the seven-day average positivity rate is 2.6%, according to Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi.
Blangiardi said he hoped to stay at Level 2, a four-level framework established by former Mayor Kirk Caldwell. Under level 3, social gatherings of up to 10 would be allowed, up from 5 under level 2, and retail businesses would be able to operate at full capacity, instead of 50% of their capacity below level 2.
