Hawaii Reports 8 New COVID Deaths, 625 More Infections As Outbreak Continues

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii on Wednesday reported eight more deaths from COVID amid a continued rise in infections that threatens to overwhelm the state’s healthcare system.

The death toll from the virus in Hawaii now stands at 573.

Meanwhile, 625 new cases of COVID have been reported statewide.

Among Wednesday’s new infections:

  • 376 were on Oahu
  • 100 on the island of Hawaii
  • 96 in Maui
  • 39 on Kauai
  • two on the veranda
  • two on Molokai

There were also 10 residents diagnosed out of state.

The eight people who died have been identified by age and island of residence.

On Oahu, they were:

  • A woman in her thirties
  • A man in his forties
  • A woman in her fifties
  • A man in his sixties
  • A 70 year old woman
  • and two 80-year-old men

Everyone from Oahu had been hospitalized.

The eighth death was a Maui man in his 60s who died at home.

With the new infections, the total number of cases in Hawaii since the start of the pandemic has risen to 57,747. In the past 14 days, state health officials said there were 9,633 new cases.

The state does not report daily on the immunization status of those who contract COVID.

Some 62.3% of the state’s population are fully immunized, while 70.6% have received at least one dose.
