Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported 102 new coronavirus infections statewide, bringing the state’s total since the start of the pandemic to 29,408 cases.
State health officials have not reported any new coronavirus-related deaths, with the statewide death toll remaining at 462.
The state’s official coronavirus death toll includes 364 deaths in Oahu, 53 on the island of Hawaii, 38 in Maui, one in Kauai, and three Hawaii residents who died out of state.
The coronavirus-related death toll in the United States today is over 549,000 and the number of infections nationwide is over 30 million.
New cases of infection statewide today include 61 on Oahu, 26 on Maui and 15 on the island of Hawaii, according to health officials.
Statistics released today reflect the new cases of infection reported to the department on Friday.
The total number of coronavirus cases per island since the start of the epidemic is 22,924 in Oahu, 2,779 in Maui, 2,447 in Hawaii County, 189 in Kauai, 110 in Lanai and 34 in Molokai. There are also 925 Hawaii residents who have been diagnosed outside of the state.
Health officials also said today that of the state’s total infections, 1,104 cases were considered active. Officials say they view infections reported in the past 14 days as a “proxy number for active cases.” The number of active cases in the state has increased by 52 today.
Per island, Oahu has 639 active cases, Maui has 339, the Big Island has 119, Molokai has six, Kauai has three, and Lanai has two.
Health officials counted 6,549 new COVID-19 test results in today’s tally, for a statewide positivity rate of 1.5%. The state’s 7-day average positivity rate is 1.7%, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard.
The state’s COVID-19 vaccine summary in Hawaii said Thursday that 568,376 vaccines had been administered out of the 748,070 received by the state. About 25% of the general population of Hawaii has received at least one dose of the vaccine. Of those who have received at least one dose of the vaccine to date, 50% are aged 59 or younger, while 50% are 60 years or older. Of the vaccines administered, 543,446 were given to the general public and 24,930 were distributed through the federal pharmacy program, officials said.
Of all confirmed cases of infection in Hawaii, 1,978 have required hospitalizations, with three new hospitalizations – two in Maui and one on the Big Island – reported today by state health officials.
Eight hospitalizations statewide are residents of Hawaii who were diagnosed and treated outside of the state. Of the 1,970 hospitalizations in the state, 1,681 were in Oahu, 168 in Maui, 107 in Big Island, 8 in Kauai, 5 in Lanai, and 1 in Molokai.

According to the latest information from the department’s Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard, a total of 39 patients infected with the virus were in hospitals in Hawaii as of Thursday morning, including seven in intensive care units and four on ventilators.
Oahu entered the less restrictive Level 3 of the city’s four-level economic stimulus package on February 25 after being at Level 2 since October 22. 10 people at the table, compared to five now. On March 11, Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi announced changes to Level 3, including allowing bars to reopen under the same conditions as restaurants and extending the curfew until midnight.
Today, the seven-day average number of cases for Oahu is 52 and the seven-day average positivity rate is 1.9%, according to the mayor.
