WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – The Washtenaw County Health Department is warning community members to continue taking preventative measures against hepatitis A.

Although no new cases have been reported, 20 people in Washtenaw County have been affected by hepatitis A, according to a press release from the Department of Health.

The health department encourages people to wash their hands and get vaccinated.

Public immunization clinics have been set up in Washtenaw County. Anyone who is not insured, who owns Medicaid or who presents a high risk of exposure can receive the vaccine for free, the statement said. Clinic dates and locations include:

  • June 13th-12th: Ann Arbor District Library, 343 S. 5th Ave., Ann Arbor
  • 1-2 am July 23: Miller Manor, 727 Miller Avenue, Ann Arbor

People can also receive vaccines at the Washtenaw County Health Department, located at 555 Towner Street, Ypsilanti.

The hand sanitizer does not kill hepatitis A, says the release.

The Division's Environmental Health Division will also provide information on hand washing, sanitation or food safety when it comes to organizing public events.
