A sixth case of measles now has people in Auburn on maximum alert. We learned Friday that a woman in her 40s may have exposed people in several public places.

Health officials believe that all people with measles up to now may have been in touch with a person who was at SeaTac Airport on April 25, probably in the morning. The WA Health Department first called this new wave of measles a new "epidemic" on Wednesday.

As more and more people contract measles, health departments are listing more and more exhibition sites – the most recent ones are in Auburn.

One of these sites is at Fred Meyer in Auburn at 801 Auburn Way N.

"It's a little scary to hear that because that's where I come all the time with my sister shopping," said Luana Nelson-Davis, who lives in Auburn.

Health officials said a new patient with measles had come to shop last Saturday. The news has Fred Meyer buyers trying to think and determine if they have been exposed.

"Were I there? Because I come here every week to do my shopping, was I here last weekend? But no, "said Becky Miller, another resident of Auburn. "Always scary, always very scary," she said.

The new patient with measles also went to Building A Apartments Villas at least four times last week (1221 A St NE, Building A, Auburn WA 98002).

It is now considered a site of exposure to measles.

"I did not even know that the measles epidemic was there, which is my building, so I was a little shocked to hear it," said Lina Kim, who was only aware of the exposure. when KIRO7 spoke to him.

Kim, a mother, said her children are vaccinated. But like many adults, she remembers if she had the vaccine.

"I do not know if I'm vulnerable, but it's alarming," she said.

Health officials say anyone who is in the places of potential exposure should

  • Check if you have been vaccinated against measles or if you have ever had one. Make sure you know the recommended number of measles immunizations (MMR).
  • Call a health care provider promptly if you develop an illness accompanied by fever or accompanied by an unexplained rash. To avoid possibly passing measles to other people, do not go to a clinic or hospital without first phoning to tell them that you want to have a measles assessment.
  • In some cases, a vaccine or drug may be given after exposure to prevent disease. Consult your health care provider. This is especially important for people at high risk for measles complications.

Doctors say that another measles vaccine, even if you have already had one (but you have forgotten it), will not cause any harm.

Residents of the Auburn apartment complex believe that potential exposure is of particular concern because many families have infants too young to be vaccinated.

"Many, many, every floor probably has families with young children. Babies, "said Kim.

This last case of the woman in her forties is the third person in King County to contract measles in the new home.

Others include a teacher at Issaquah High and a person working in the Belltown area of Seattle.

In Pierce County, there are two cases – an Orting man and someone who went to Costco and Target in Puyalllup.

In Snohomish County, there is one case – a student from North Creek High School.

All six have recently visited the SeaTac airport.

Health officials say they have no reason to believe that there is currently an increased risk of contracting measles on their way to the airport.

Current list of potential exposure sites:
