Beaumont doctor explains need for boosters, talks about vaccine schedule
On Thursday, the CDC approved Pfizer booster injections for people 65 years and older and at high risk. The move comes as we await full FDA approval for Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
DETROIT – One of Michigan’s largest health care systems says about 400 of its workers quit rather than get a COVID-19 shot.
The Henry Ford Health System confirmed on Tuesday that about 1% of its workforce had quit their jobs at the hospital during his tenure to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. It was the first Michigan hospital system to mandate injections this year.
Another 1,900 – or about 6% of the workforce – obtained religious or medical exemptions from the vaccine.
President Joe Biden has ordered vaccination warrants for nearly every hospital in the country or weekly coronavirus tests for employees who choose not to be vaccinated.
Healthcare is not the only sector to suffer from manpower issues due to immunization mandates – but the rules around injection put them in difficult situations due to staff shortages responding to a strong demand due to the pandemic.

Yet not all hospitals have ordered a warrant.
Beaumont Health and Trinity Health implemented vaccination mandates while Detroit Medical Center and McLaren Health Care did not.

Many employers feared that the vaccines mandate would exacerbate an already difficult working environment in hospitals where nurses and doctors have spent more than a year and a half managing infectious emergency rooms with too few beds.
Currently, there are over 1,600 hospitalizations in Michigan linked to COVID-19.
