SILVER SPRING, Maryland – The Food and Drug Administration on Friday discovered contamination with hepatitis A virus in frozen Kroger blackberries.

A press release indicates that blackberries are under the brand name "Private Selection" of the grocery store. The following products have been recalled:

  • Private Triple Triple Triple Berry Selection, 48 oz. (best by 07-07-20, case code: 0001111079120)
  • Private Triple Triple Triple Berry Selection, 16 ounces. (best by 06-19-20, case code: 0001111087808)
  • Private selection ripe frozen, 16 ounces. (best before 19 and 19-20 and 7-02-20, case code: 0001111087809)

The FDA has stated that consumers should avoid consuming Kroger frozen fruit and discarding any blackberries purchased from the "Private Selection" brand.

Frozen blackberries have a shelf life of two years. The FDA is currently working with the manufacturer and studying other products that may contain contaminants.
