Faith’s Objections to the “Equality Law”: Is It the Worst Case for Religious Freedom?
Religious leaders are worried about the equality law, which is expected to pass the House, because it does not include any religious objections and some warn that it could prohibit the defense of traditional views on marriage. Three House Republicans broke with their colleagues Thursday and backed the equality law, which Tories have described as an attack on religious freedom.
Representatives Tom Reed, RN.Y., John Katko, RN.Y., and Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., Have all joined with more than 200 Democrats opposed to the legislation. In total, the bill passed with a vote of 224-206.
The controversial legislation should struggle to find its way into the Senate, although the White House has pledged to sign it if possible.

“Today, I once again supported the passage of the Equality Act, a bill that creates a uniform federal standard to prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Katko said, according to The Hill.

The bill seeks to amend the Civil Rights Act 1964, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, and the Selection and Jury Services Act.
“We are firmly opposed to discrimination in any form. Throughout my tenure in Congress, we have fought to ensure that everyone is treated fairly before the law, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation,” he said. Katko said.
