Here is the ‘Destiny 2’ season of the chosen roadmap

Destiny 2’s Season of the Chosen has been revealed, and with it comes another seasonal roadmap that runs from next Tuesday through mid-May, the usual three months. I thought you might want a more permanent place to reference the roadmap than a tweet, hence this post, but you can see it in a larger form here as I doubt you can see it all too good.

I also wanted to talk a bit about what was on the roadmap, and any surprises or non-surprises that we might encounter. Here are the main things that stand out to me after going through it:

– The main feature of the season are the new Battlegrounds events, which, if I had to guess, being a match-three activity, may be something we see on a similar scale as Forges. From what we can tell, there are four in total and they’re on Nessus, the Cosmodrome, the Moon, and … not sure on the last one (Update: Europa, judging by the trailer) . Unlike Forges, they can use existing map areas, I’m not sure yet.

– Destiny 1’s two darned strikes, Fallen SABER and Devil’s Lair roll right out of the season, though we’re still not sure if they make it into the story in some way like The Disgraced. in Beyond Light, nor whether they have been rewritten or will simply contain original dialogue and final bosses.

– The new HELM location has been a mystery to fans, as it appears to be its own separate space, not in the current tower. Some believe this is an area rebuilt in the old tower, but not necessarily that the whole old tower comes to life. The HELM appears to be our “invest currency into upgrading X for more bonus” item this season, according to the sound of it.

– One thing that is only addressed in this roadmap and nowhere else the arrival of new stasis aspect quests. We don’t know how many (at least one per class, I guess) or what form they’ll take (more checklists like last time, or an actual assignment?). I’m sure the effects they will have will not be controversial and will not affect PvP at all. Hopefully this will continue the Clovis / Elsie storyline on Europa so that we don’t give this place up entirely.

– Trials kicks off right away with her new set of armor, possibly the best looking we’ve seen this season, and the new trailer showed a new Trials hand cannon entering mode. From what we can tell, new Trials loot and new playlists seem to be the only thing added / focused for PvP this season.

– It’s only over a month after launch that we get the new strike of the season, Proving Grounds, which takes place on a moving tank, and I’m guessing the delay is because it will have kind of a seasonal story component that couldn’t take place at the start of the season. Weirdly, Bungie is doing something where season pass holders get the strike a week before F2P players. I mean, okay?

– Finally, we’re having Guardian Games as a season finale, and although some people say the armor sets remind them of SRL, I’m not buying it. There is a ‘closing ceremony’ this time around, although I’m not sure what it will be, although I’ve heard theories about reopening the old tower. My only theory is that Heir Apparent will return, and this time he will also have a catalyst.

What is not here? A mysterious exotic quest for a Tex Mechanica weapon that some people believe is the First Curse, but it could be brand new. And of course, Bungie might be hiding other secrets that aren’t listed anywhere.

Much will depend on the quality of the loot and the seasonal activity, but I’m encouraged by what I’ve seen so far, so I’ll definitely give the season a chance. Stay tuned for more information.
