High school football: Bath leads Elida at halftime

BATH TOWNSHIP – It’s a clash of city rivalry that both football programs look forward to every season.

This year’s meeting between Elida and Bath had more than implications of rivalry. Both teams entered Friday’s competition with identical records of 2-1, 1-1 WBL.

On Friday in the first half, Bath took advantage of a few errors from Elida and took a 20-7 lead at halftime.

Bath made Elida pay earlier.

The Wildcats had excellent home ground possession after Elida’s first possession of the game.

Griffen Mikesell blocked an Elida punt and the Wildcats jumped on the loose ball at Elida’s 36-yard line.

Three games later, Bath quarterback Ian Armentrout connected with tight end RJ Cortez for a 31-yard touchdown pass. With the extra point from Keaton Liles, Bath took a 7-0 lead with 8:56 left in the first quarter.

Elida had an answer.

On their next possession, the Bulldogs covered 81 yards on 19 plays en route to their first score of the night. Quarterback Larkin Henderson ran four yards for the touchdown. Grant Hardeman’s PAT closed the game at 7 with 1:30 left in the first quarter.

At the start of the second quarter, Bath got a huge break.

Elida had the ball on her own 7-yard line. However, a bad snap passed Henderson and entered the end zone. Bath defensive back Skyler Lhamon pounced on loose pigskin for Bath’s touchdown. With Liles’ extra point, the Wildcats led 14-7 with 9:57 left in the first half.

Bath added another score before the break.

With 38 seconds left in the first half, Armentrout found an open Carter Parlapiano for a 25-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was blocked and the Wildcats had the 13 point advantage.

In the first half, Bath racked up 121 total offensive yards. Armentrout was 6 of 9 assists for 102 yards.

Elida finished the first half with 143 total yards. Henderson led the way with 66 rushing yards on 13 carries. Henderson was 9 of 16 assists for 63 yards in the first half.
