WASHINGTON (May 23): Honda Motor Co announced Wednesday the recall of 137,000 new sport utility vehicles (SUVs) following reports of three injuries related to sudden deployments of air bags in the United States.

The Japanese manufacturer said it was reminding CR-V 2019 to replace the flywheel cable harnesses and the additional restraint system wire feeders after six unexpected unintentional deployments of driver airbags. To date, there have been no reports of collisions, said the builder.

The recall involves 118,000 vehicles in the United States and 19,000 in Korea and Canada.

Metal burrs on the inside surface of the steering wheel could cause damage that could lead to a short circuit and overheating of the components, Honda said.

The question is distinct from a series of recalls that Honda has made over the last decade to replace more than 21 million defective Takata air bag inflators in about 12.9 million US vehicles that, according to Honda, would be responsible for 14 deaths in the United States.

Honda also announced the recall of 19,000 US vehicles for which Takata inflator replacement kits were incorrectly installed before May 2018.
