Houston Texans should seek second interview with Leslie Frazier of Bills, Eric Bieniemy of Chiefs, sources say

The Houston Texans are expected to request a second interview with Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy after Sunday’s AFC championship game, sources told ESPN.

Both candidates believe they have a legitimate chance of landing the Texans’ head coach job and have started rounding up the coaching staff in case they get hired, sources say.

Frazier is said to have had a solid interview with the Texans and already had head coaching experience from his time with the Minnesota Vikings. Bieniemy is seen in many circles as a head coach on hold, although he has recently been overlooked by several teams.

As the search for a Houston head coach intensifies, the winning coordinator of Sunday’s game could be the loser in the Texans’ search as they would have to wait to hire him. The Texans could act faster with the coordinator of the losing team.

That scenario played a key role in the Los Angeles Chargers’ hiring of Brandon Staley last weekend on Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. Once the Staley Rams were knocked out of the playoffs, the Chargers weren’t willing to wait for Daboll and hired Staley.

Other candidates the Texans interviewed included quarterback Josh McCown, former Lions and Colts coach Jim Caldwell, Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus and Ravens assistant head coach David Culley.
