In 2007, Prince William and Kate had been together for about four years. While many people may have assumed that they were completely committed at the time, this was not necessarily the case. During the 2006-2007 holiday season, Parade reports that Kate's family invited Will to stay with them on their country getaway and he accepted this invitation. When the prince changed his mind at the last minute, Kate could not hide his disappointment. After that, the couple began to move away more and more time, to separate and, a few months later, they officially separated.

It was William who ended the discussions with Kate and she was absolutely sorry. According to Harper's Bazaar, he called Kate and explained to him that he felt that the excessive and overwhelming media attention that she faced while being his girlfriend was not fair. Kate confessed during the couple's engagement interview that she was not happy, but she realized that it made her stronger.
The future duchess spent time with her mother, Carole, in Ireland, while William was obliged to fulfill his military duties. Although William and Kate were lost during this time, they needed time and space to grow and learn before they were together.
William did not stay home during the breakup
Although it is easy to imagine that Prince William was sitting at home, depressed, while Kate and he were separated, that's not what he did. According to Express, the young prince was partying in London's discotheques with a few different girls by his side. Even though Kate knew, even when they were together, that her well-known boyfriend would always have women who gave her a lot of attention, she was still affected by William's actions and did not hesitate to let him know.
How did the relationship between William and Kate change overnight?
Rather than ignoring William's behavior, Kate decided to tell him exactly how she felt. She told Will that he "belittled" her image by having her party in public and that she would not tolerate being treated that way.
Fortunately, Kate's words really touched William and he could see things from his point of view. The couple finally realized that they did not want to be separated and resumed their relationship, obviously stronger than before. Looks like William was realizing how special Kate was, and he has not looked back since.
