How to disconnect remotely from your Gmail account

Gmail is great because you can view your messages from any device connected to the web. But what if this Internet-connected device is your friend's computer and you forget to log out once you're done?

Gmail offers the possibility to remotely disconnect devices via its application. This is something that I personally used a few times when I gave a friend a tablet for him to take, realizing that after leaving my house, my email was still connected.

Is it the worst thing if my friend sees my inbox? Probably not. That said, there are sometimes notifications for things I've bought (maybe for this friend) or other notes that I prefer to keep confidential than putting them in front of my boyfriend.

If you accidentally connect to a device, remote disconnection is extremely easy.

Start by signing in to Gmail on a device you own. Scroll down to the bottom and select "Details". A pop-up window will show you all the places where you are currently connected. Click "Log Off All Other Gmail Web Sessions" to log out of your friend's computer.

For devices, you need to go to myaccount.google.com, then "Sign in and security," and then click Device activity and notification. In the "Recently used devices" section, you will see all the devices currently allowed to access your Gmail account. Tap the device for which you want to revoke access, and select Delete to disconnect remotely.
