The dark mode for Gmail is here. But not all users have it yet. Reports indicate that the latest update of the Gmail application has introduced the dark mode. Gmail is perhaps the last major application of the Google suite to not use dark mode. Now it is being rolled out. Find out if you are one of the lucky few to have the long-awaited dark mode for Gmail.

Google has gradually launched dark mode for its applications, and we waited patiently for Gmail to get this feature. Now it's here (for some) and we can finally see our emails in dark mode and make sure Gmail matches the rest of our apps. More eyestrain, more boring white. Improved battery consumption when browsing messages and even increased readability of emails.
Enabling dark mode in Gmail for Android
First, make sure you run the latest version of Gmail from the Play Store. If the "Theme" setting below is still not available after updating Gmail, you may need to wait a week or two for the server-side update.
But to start, open the Gmail app and tap the hamburger icon at the top left. Scroll to the bottom of this menu and tap "Settings" and then select "General Settings". At the top of the next page, tap "Theme" and choose "Dark" in the pop-up window.
If you're using Android 10 and you have enabled the system-wide dark theme, you can simply select "System Default" and it will go dark to match your phone's theme. For users before Android 10, the display will show "Set by Batter Saver". This will make the dark mode on when your app is in battery saving mode.
Now, when you navigate in the Gmail app, you will have a dark theme. Throughout the application, there will be a dark gray background and a clear text. Even your emails will be displayed with a dark theme.
Enabling dark mode in Gmail for iPhone
Unfortunately, Gmail does not have the same "Theme" option on iPhone, and does not yet support the new iOS 13 Dark Mode API. But there is still a way to make the Gmail app dark.
Go to your Settings application and choose "Accessibility" and then press "Display Size and Text". From there, turn on the flip-flop next to Smart Invert. Thus, all applications that are not already in dark mode (if you are on iOS 13) become dark. This obviously has drawbacks, but if you are ready to do so, you will go into dark mode in Gmail.
The "smart" part of the name Smart Invert comes from the fact that it tries to reverse only the colors of text and backgrounds. Rarely, as is the case with some Gmail avatars, the images will also be reversed. And since Gmail was blank, it means you will now have a completely black theme in the app!
