How to turn off AirTag alerts when someone checks out your stuff

Instead, you may worry that your iPhone is going crazy, warning you that a strange AirTag is nearby. Let’s take a step back for a moment. While Apple AirTags are a great way to keep tabs on things that are often missing, there is an obvious security flaw for a discrete tile that returns its location to the owner. You don’t want someone to be able to place an AirTag in someone’s bag or car, only to be able to follow their movements in silence.

Apple fixes this flaw by informing you if you are near an AirTag that it does not recognize. Butpeak defects, that too occurs when you are near an AirTag you recognize, but that your iPhone does not.

There is a solution

It turns out that you can solve this problem. Apple has a way to confirm the AirTag in question is not harmful, and that you know the person to whom it is attached. You can even make sure that your iPhone will never warn you about that particular AirTag again.

The trap ? The AirTag must be owned by someone in your Family Sharing group. Otherwise, the best you can do is turn off the alerts for a day (which is always better than being hit by recurring alerts throughout the day).

The next time the “Security Alert” page appears on your iPhone, just tap “Continue”. According to Apple, if this AirTag belongs to someone in your Family Sharing group, you should see an option to turn off security alerts for “One Day” or “Forever”.

Otherwise, you should see an option to “Suspend Security Alerts”. Tap it to end the day’s safety alerts and regain at least some of your sanity.
