Two 1-0 teams will meet inside Sanford Stadium at 3:30 p.m. EST as the University of Alabama at Birmingham travel to Athens to take on the number two-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.
Georgia are coming off a 10-3 defensive victory over then-number three Clemson in the season opener at neutral venue in Charlotte, NC; On the other hand, UAB just outscored Deion Sanders’ Jackson State 31-0 last Wednesday.
The Blazers’ victory comes from the back of returning quarterback Tyler Johnston II, a red-shirted senior who is 13-5 as the Blazers starting quarterback; Johnston finished 17 for 21 last week, passing for 320 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 18.8 yards per completion in the win over Jackson State.
JT Daniels of Georgia won one of his worst games statistically against the Clemson Tigers, throwing 135 yards and an interception while completing 22 of his 30 passes. Georgia’s once explosive vertical passing game was rendered ineffective in Saturday’s season opener with just one 20-yard accomplishment.
Daniels may not be the quarterback the Blazers need to worry about as his status is on hold before kick-off. News broke on Wednesday that the red-shirted sophomore was struggling with an oblique issue that kept him from working out on Monday. Daniels’ injury saw Carson Beck gain more reps with the first team as a precaution.
